GSHAS #2
Another great outing in a big victory over Triple Play!! I lost count but I think that score was 20-7. We had a big inning and then kept it going. I recall multiple hits up and down the line-up. We took advantage of their OF and took lots of extra bases (Chris D. scored from second on a sac fly and Jon L. alertly took second as the throw from the OF trickled away from the second baseman). While the aluminum was impressive, it was the defense that really shined (and demoralized the other team). Both the OF and IF play were stellar!! It started with Chaz knocking down a smash down the first base line, recovering, and then throwing to Charlie who was alertly covering first (just like we practiced in spring training). Ben made two superb plays- one diving catch at 2B and one diving stop on a grounder at 3B and throw to second for a force out to end an inning. Pete also had a superb diving catch in LC and ran the bases like a madman. Chaz also made a great catch/stretch to complete 1-6-3 DP (sorry for the throw that you had to stop with your knee- I owe you one). Rich Corinthian leather!!
Now on for the count. This is the cumulative count including the things from this week that I can remember. Correct me if I’m wrong or missed something via the comments and I’ll update.
John B. (2.5) [-0.5 for 1-6-3 DP]
Jon L. (2)
Chris D. (1.5) [+1 for calling a ball which was not caught but was imminently catchable by Chris W.]
Ben W. (1) [+1 for botched grounder, -0.5 for diving catch at 2B, -0.5 for diving stab and force out]
Dan W. (1) [+1 for K/pop-out to catcher]
Chaz (0.5) [-0.5 for stab/throw to Charlie, -0.5 for 1-6-3 DP]
Charlie (-0.5) [-0.5 for covering 1B on Chaz’s play]
Pete (-0.5) [-0.5 for diving catch]
Wow, we had more negative points than positive ones (I’m guessing we’ll win lots of games when this is the case). Nice work!!

Do I get -0.5 for scoring from second on a sac fly and taking an extra base, second, on the left fielder after I singled?

Chris, I thought that your baserunning was outstanding (shades of Ben W. as you rounded third without stopping)!! Yet, I’m a bit hesitant to start deducting points for those kind of things as pretty soon you, Pete, etc. will have such a large stockpile of negative points that you’ll be set for the season. As far as the points go, I’m of the mind that bad baserunning is penalized while good baserunning, while highly encouraged, does not earn negative points unless there are some extenuating circumstances (say, you scored the winning run by tagging up from second, taking an extra base, etc.). However, if you had been thrown out on either of these two plays, I am not sure that any points would be incurred as they were both good, agressive baserunning plays on a team that had yet to show that they were capable of throwing anyone out (or even getting the ball back to the IF in a timely manner). Any comments from the rest of the fellas?
