GSHAS Fall #1, 2

Great effort in a DH sweep last night- a great managerial debut for Charlie!! Our bats started a bit slow but we made up for it with the rich Corinthian leather (i.e. defense) in a 3-2 win over Underdogs. Tony came up with a big hit in 6th to drive in two runs and give us the lead. The IF and OF play was very solid all around. We were even able to overcome pretty sorry officiating in the field (seems to me the calls were essentially random). In the second game, our bats woke up in a 17-9 victory!! There were lots of hits up and down the lineup. The glovework was excellent last night. Chaz played all over the field and made fine plays at both 1st and 2nd. Tony made lots of nice plays at 2nd and combined with Jon L. on a great 5-4-3 DP. In addition to the DP, Jon also snagged a hard liner at 3rd and fired across the diamond to make several outs. Even Charlie got into the act as he fielded several balls and also covered first to get a few outs. And Josh proved himself highly capable of playing 1B so that the IF guys could rotate- fundamentally sound!! Nice!! The OF work was solid all around with Chris W. making several nice running catches. Both Tony and Ron got a bit nicked up this week as they hustled for balls so heal up for next week- don’t want any injuries as the weather cools.

Unfortunately, all was not well this week. We have lost a member of our softball family. I’m sad to announce that the Scandium is no more. As we began our hitting display in the second game, it developed a crack and had to be put down. This is a very sad day as the rare Russian earth metal has served us very well for the past few years. We’ll miss you Scandium!! Perhaps we should break it and all take a small piece. Feel free to post your memories of our beloved Scandium in the comments. By the way, you can blame Chris W. as he jinxed us- I’m tempted to assess a point to him for it!!

OK- on to the points. Great playing this week led to very few assessments. I’m getting thirsty again so someone take one for the team (perhaps we can assess Nate a point for each game he misses and then force him to buy when he returns to A2)!! Let me know if I forgot anything via the comments and I’ll update.
