GSHAS Fall #8
Excellent work in a 20-7 win over the same Cubs team from last week!! We are back to .500 now and have won two straight. We were solid in all phases of the game this week (though we couldn’t seem to get over the hump for the early mercy- hee hee). Josh and Pete started us off with some nice work at the top of the lineup, Chris W. smoked a ball deep (and almost took Pete out on third base) as did Ron (though the OF ran back and made a great catch), and Mel nearly took the second basemen’s head off. I knew we would be good with the gloves when I saw Pete make a great diving try on a line drive in the first. Chaz and Jon L. made some great stops at 2B and 3B, and Josh again showed how fundamentally sound he is with some fine play at 2B (just like Tom Emanski teaches). Mel did a fine job pitching and kept the hitters off balance all night. The umps managed to blow some calls again including a play where K.C. was safe at 3B and the ump in the field called him safe while the home plate umpire called him out (even though it wasn’t his call- doh). Excellent job!! I’ll be gone next week so good luck- close out the season in style (I’ll rely on Charlie for the blog update so he’ll have to assess the points).
OK- on to the scoring. Thanks to Danny for bringing cold beverages this week- we’ll forgive him for not bringing some non-alcoholic stuff and will still deduct a full 5 points for the refreshments- a clean start. Jon L. and Chaz both made great plays in the IF but also managed to go over the top so Chaz will be bringing cold beverages after next week’s DH (Tony, you are only at 4.5 points so you don’t need to bring yet). Jon L. turned in a fine effort trying to get that -0.5 to back away from the point limit- almost made a tremendous diving stop on a ball down the line and nearly turned a double play with Josh. WE’RE DRINKING AGAIN!! We’ll have Jon L. buy the first round at the end-of-season get together (maybe next Fri. or Sat. evening- Leopold Bros.- are you available?)? I’ve tried to put in the things that I remember but feel free to add/edit/dispute via the comments and I’ll update.

I will not be able to make the festivities if they are the weekend of Oct. 28-29th. I will be in Chicago for the the Northwestern/Michigan game.
