Male Chick Flicks
Here is the note from Chaz about the male chick flicks. I look forward to a fun discussion via the comments.
Tags: No TagsAfter our second to last game, whilst sharing suds, I mentioned that I had read an article about “male” chick-flicks. Apparently, these films are supposed to elicit teary eyes and male bonding. (Sorry, Chris D, Titanic is not on this list.) The selection is, if nothing else, amusing. Of course, there are probably others to add. Maybe it could be explored on the BattehBlog.
For some of these, I have put my comments in parenthesis.
Without further ado, here they are:25.The Transformers: The Movie (Huh?)
24. Goodbye, Mr. Chips
23. In Good Company (I would recommend this one. Dennis Quaid is great as the aging ad exec.)
22. Stand By Me (C’mon, who can resist a movie with leeches in unthinkable places.)
21. Boyz N the Hood
20. Sideways (I thought this was way overrated. I did like the scene with the naked fat guy crashing into the car, though)
19. Apollo 13 (Every time I see this, I keep praying they’ll make it back.)
18. About a Boy (You might actually like Hugh Grant after seeing this film.)
17. The Longest Yard (1974)
16. Shane
15. Rain man
14. Diner
13. LOTR: The Return of the King (Do Hobbits make you feel warm and fuzzy, too?)
12. Midnight Cowboy
11. Rudy (C’mon, it’s about Notre Dame. How can anyone like it?)
10. Old Yeller (I prefer Where the Red Fern Grows)
9. Jerry Maguire
8. Top Gun
7. Swingers (VV gets a little annoying, but this movie speaks to the 20-something.)
6. Ordinary People (This is actually just a chick flick, but I like it nonetheless)
5. Brian’s Song (This is my #1. It’s sappy and cheesy, but boy does it pull at the heart strings.)
4. Good Will Hunting (I told Annie that this movie changed my life…a few years later, I couldn’t remember saying it. Talk about a line to make people think you’re deep. Luckily, Annie saw through me.)
3. Hoosiers
2. The Shawshank Redemption (Despite the fact that it is on TBS every weekend, I do love this movie.)
1. Field of Dreams (Okay, I may be the exception, but I really don’t like this movie. It doesn’t help that Cosner is a horrible actor. And, I have never said to anyone “Do you wanna have a catch?” People play catch where I’m from.)

Man, I’m sorry that I missed this conversation the other week. In the spirit of Chaz’s comments…
25. The Transformers: The Movie (What the heck is this? Robots in disguise?)
20. Sideways (What about the scene where the dude gets beaten with the motorcycle helmet?)
19. Apollo 13 (Engineers are cool!!)
18. About a Boy (HG is super cool- just watch Four Weddings and a Funeral)
15. Rain man (I’m a very good driver, yeah, very good driver)
13. LOTR: The Return of the King (Interesting choice here…maybe I ignored the love story due to all the cool fighting?)
11. Rudy (ND blows but the scene where the team turns in their jerseys so Rudy can play is pretty sweet)
10. Old Yeller (Where the Red Fern Grows…blast from the past)
8. Top Gun (I totally wanted to be a figher pilot- F14s are cool)
7. Swingers (fun movie- love the scene where all the guys pull up to the club in their own cars)
4. Good Will Hunting (Hee hee- how do you like them apples?)
1. Field of Dreams (I like this movie. Yeah, Costner is a bad actor and he says stuff like “have a catch” (no one says that) but it’s about baseball. Who wouldn’t want to build a ballfied in your cornfield? Plus, James Earl Jones is great.)
