GSHAS #1

Tonight was softball opening for GSHAS and thus marks the official start of summer. And what a way to start with an exciting, last-at-bat victory 7-6 over Ten Guys Named Roy. We were definitely not our sharpest with some IF misplays that led to runs, some “interesting” baserunning, plus we had a hard time stringing hits together. But, despite the first game rust, we fought hard and came out with a victory. The defense was stellar in spurts with Charlie stabbing two hard liners up the middle, Jon L. snagging an oddly-hit ball down the third base line and firing to Chaz who made a great stretch to get the out at first, and the OF was really solid with several fine running grabs. Going into the top of the 7th tied 5-5, we gave up one run but managed to cut down another at the plate thanks to a great throw from the OF by Todd and nice tag by John E. In the bottom of the 7th, Jon L. got us started with a base hit. After going first to third on my hit, Chris W. drove in the tying run with a hit to center. Then Chris D. crushed one to deep left that brought in the winning run. Nice to steal one!! Good work!! In addition, the Synergy (i.e. Scandium Jr.) got its first use of the season and is now ready for prime time after tonight’s trial by fire. Let the hitting begin!! I was very pleased with it and Chris D. used it for the game-winning hit. I think this is the start of something special…

Back by popular demand is our Kangaroo Court points system. We had a good time with this last year, and I look forward to more fun this year. Just a refresher: +1 point for miscues and -0.5 for stellar plays (points can both self-assessed and/or decided upon by the team). Once you reach 5 points, you provide post-game beverages for the team and get your points reset to zero. Since the points carried over from last year, we’ll be enjoying beverages from the start. Tony provided fine beverages this evening. Thanks!! So, here are the assessments and totals after tonights game (as always, dispute or mock via comments- the group hashed out most of these assessments while consuming cold beverages at Tony’s trunk). Also, I’ve removed our alumni members from the big board- but we’ll remember Nate’s (0.5), Pete’s (1.5), and Josh’s (1) totals in case they come back to play. Also, Jon L. will be providing post-game beverages after next week’s game so plan to stick around. As always, we are looking to tweak the points system so post your thoughts via the comments.

I think KC should get more than a +1, as he somehow managed to drop a foul pop without even being there. . .

Yeah- I forgot to delete that when I copied and pasted. It is fixed now (sorry KC). As Charlie pointed out, the statute of limitations has definitely expired!!
