Race for the Cure
I’m planning on running the Race for the Cure again this year (if my slow pace can actually be considered running). Please consider helping me reach my fundraising goals by making a donation online via my secure personal donation page. I propose a competition between Family, Friends, BGBG, and GSHAS to see who has the most donors (we’ll have to figure out what to do with those who play on both teams). If one of the softball teams wins, I’ll provide post-game beverages. We’ll figure out something if the Family or Friends group wins. Feel free to leave your comments here and check back for updates on the effort. Thanks in advance for your support!!
Below is the updated donor count. Family is back in the lead with Friends just behind but the softball teams are coming on strong!!

Family: 8
Friends: 6
BGBG: 1.5
GSHAS: 1.5

What? No poking fun of John’s running abilities yet? This is a roast-worthy event. I’ll lead off.
Every good runner has a game plan for running a race, and I got a sneak preview of John’s:
Step 1: Run 60 feet. Turn left. Run another 60 feet to second base.
Step 2: Wait for someone to hit the ball to right center field to advance him the next 120 feet to home.
Step 3: See Step 1.
I’m not done yet: 5 km is just a shade over 68.35 times around a softball diamond. That’s 68 homers (a feat that MLB has shown is impossible to perform without steroids), plus getting thrown out once trying to stretch a single into a double. Ben, coincidentally, set a record by running the equivalent 68.35 times around a diamond in a single game in 1999 in which he’d managed to get himself into four run-downs.
Last heckle: I’d planned on donating $10 for every minute under 30 that it took for John to run the 5k, but if I did that, then he’d wind up owing me money.
John, good luck at the race. We’re proud of your effort to support breast cancer research & education.

Tim- good stuff!! I don’t think base-to-base running will get it done on Saturday. But, when you put it in baseball terms, it doesn’t seem quite as long (I can trot, just like a homer, right?). I’d considered the “pledge per minute under 30″ but came to the same conclusion as you. Thanks for the donation!!
