GSHAS #3, #4
Sounds like I missed some excitement in the DH split yesterday. Below are the game summaries from Charlie:
Game 1:
Up 3-1 after two, we found ourselves down 9-3 after 5 innings. In the top of the sixth, with two outs, Chris Depcik hit an opposite-field HR. Inspired by Dr. Longball’s example, the next 7 hitters hit safely, tying the game at 9-9. Cubs went out 1-2-3 in the bottom of the sixth, and we couldn’t score in the top of the seventh. In the bottom of the seventh, their leadoff runner got to 2B, but the next three hitters went out (the last on a strikeout). We scored four in the top of the 8th, they came back with two, had the tying run at the plate, but he flew out to end the game. Not without excitement – as Chris Depcik went for the ball, he stumbled over a nasty spot in the OF, looked like he was going down, but then didn’t.
Final score: GSH 13, Cubs 3rd base Tavern 11

Game 2:
We had a narrow lead over the first four innings (2-0, 2-1, 3-2, 7-5). They scored three in the top of the fifth, and the rest of the game was scoreless. But we did not go quietly in the seventh. Edward’s bid for a game-tying home run was caught by Fenders’ LC fielder, who fell over the fence but held on to the ball. We got runners on first and second with two outs, but Mel knocked down Jon’s smash and threw to third to catch a sliding Charlie.
Final Score – Fenders 8, GSH 7
