GSHAS Fall #3, #4
Great effort in a DH split against Roundtree!! We won the first game 14-7 and then had it handed to us in the second game. We came out strong in the first game with the bats and the gloves. They hit lots of balls hard but our OF was superb- Chris D., Chris W., Ron, and Todd were tracking everything down. The IF was solid too with Jon L., Chaz, and Tony making lots of plays. Charlie did a nice job of keeping some very good hitters off balance and induced some lazy OF flies for easy outs. The bats were stellar- Jon L. (Automatic) was 9-9, Ron had a ton of hits as did Matt C. and Chris D. An excellent win against the best team in the league.
In the second game baseball karma caught up with us. They started catching our hits and all the line drives they hit in the first game started going over the fence, in the gaps, past our IF, through our IF, over our IF- an impressive hitting barrage in the second game. Unfortunately our defense had some lapses, but hopefully we got our bad game out of our system. To top it off, there were some really questionable umpiring calls (off the bag? illegal pitches?) and Chris D. pulled his quad (lay off the juice, won’t ya). There were some highlights- Ron nearly made a spectacular catch deep in the LF corner, Chris D. made a nice sliding catch, Tony caught a screaming line drive and turned it into a DP, and Jon L. made some very nice plays on hard hit balls, including starting a 5-4-3 DP. Jon L. (Machine) kept up his ridiculous hitting, and overall we had decent hitting up and down the lineup. Good effort!!
Here is this week’s point update. Honestly, it was a bit hard to keep track last night as the points were coming fast and furious. I’ve included the ones that I can remember. Please chime in via the comments regarding the ones I’ve missed or gotten wrong. Based on my stellar performance, I’ll be bringing beverages next week so plan to stick around after the games.

It actually is a pulled quad. Never happened to me before, so it freaked me out a bit. Thoughts of popped muscles came into my mind. It feels much better this morning and I can get around pretty well, still sore to the touch so it’ll be a while before I’m stretching singles into doubles. D’oh!

In the interest of fairness, I should remind John that I picked up two points last night, both in game 2: one for an errant throw to third, the other for getting thrown out at the plate.

Chris- thanks for the correction. I wrote the wrong thing but edited the entry. Glad to hear that you are doing better. Hopefully you can get back in some capacity for next week. Though I know you aren’t playing in JR this weekend, I assume your quad doesn’t prohibit you from coming out to enjoy the fesitivities?

I don’t know if a hit streak should count as negative points. I mean, I am just happy to be here, and I hope I can help the ball club. Seriously, I just take’em one day at a time and, the good lord willing, things will work out fine. . .

Todd- thanks for the update. I’ve adjusted the points accordingly. The real question regarding the play at home- were you sent or did you pull a Ben Wu (i.e. run through a stop sign)? If you were sent, I don’t think you should be docked for that as that is not a baserunning blunder. Let me know, and I’ll readjust.
Jon- negative points for a hit streak is new territory for us. Quite impressive- I can’t remember two weeks like you’ve had!! I think it is justified given the circumstances (we IF need to stick together). Once you break Joe D.’s mark, we’ll subtract another point (don’t want people to think they can go 3-3 and get negative points). Glad to have you on the team and helping the ball club…

Probably deserve more than a +1 as there were two balls that I missed. It getting embarassing out there. I’m getting “Nice Tries” from you guys which basically translates into either “That why we stick him at catcher or right field, he sucks, but we need the body” or a nicer way of saying “Our patience is wearing thin, catch the damn ball!”. So put me down for +2 from last night.
Since John’s buying this coming week. I guess I have dibs on the week after. Or I can bring something complementary to John’s contributions. Let me know.

Ben- I’ve corrected the scoring. Let’s put you down for beverages the following week. I wouldn’t worry about last night and I certainly wouldn’t read anything into any “nice try” comments. It was brutal out there for lots of us (or, alternatively, we thought everyone else was really thirsty and simply wanted to provide post-game beverages).

I had a +1 for a fielding error in the 6th inning of second game. Do I get negative points for buying for myself after the game last night? Just kidding.

Tony- I’ve adjusted accordingly. Sadly, buying for yourself, while rewarding in its own way, does not get you negative points. I can just see it now- “Officer, see- we have this KC system for our softball team and I really needed to get some negative points…”

I think I know why I pulled my quad last night. Bad karma. I was talking smack in my fantasy football league Thursday before the game about my match this week with a colleague who has Steve Smith. He drafted him with his number one pick and I pointed out the fact that he has no hammies left after pulling both in the preseason and training camp. Bad move. I’m now calling it the “Steve Smith Karma Factor” - SSKF for short. Anything that goes wrong from now on, I’m blaming it on SSKF.

Illegal pitches? Moi?

RT Pitcher- I think the illegal pitches were called against Charlie, not you. Apparently your pitchers are all good!!
