GSHAS #8
The excellent work with the gloves and the bats continued in a 10-5 win over Cubs AC. Jesse provided the big hit with a 2 out grand slam and the gloves did the rest. The left side of the IF was just tall enough as Jon L. (thanks for the correction, Todd) and Tony snagged two leaping liners, Tony also made a great diving stop, and the OF caught everything.
Surprisingly there were lots of points to assess this week in a win. Oddly we hit into 2 3U-6 DPs. Once again Ben was a 5 tool points-earning machine as he tried to earn points in all categories. We almost had to take him out to provide beverages immediately. Due to his exceptional performance, we decided to take Ben back to 0 points the next time he provides beverages no matter how many points he accumulates in the mean time- go for the record!! We also decided to only assess one point for walks in a game. Here are this week’s points as best I can remember- feel free to self-assess as needed. As always feel free to comment, correct, add, etc. Thanks to Charlie who provided beverages this week and Matt who provided the backup beverages. Excellent work by the crew on the beverages- very few brought back home. Tony, Jon L., and Danny were especially noteworthy with the beverages (I still think we should have an outing to a skate park to thrash). Matt will bring again next week.

Congrats to Ben, as I think he may have locked up the triple crown of points this week (for hitting, base-running, and pitching/defense points)! That’s gotta be worth some points. . .
In keeping with that topic, I had a question: what is the protocol for determining who brings beverages next? Is it just the most points, or are there other considerations (e.g. how long since you last brought, how fast you got to 5 points, etc.)? If it is raw points, I am 4th in line.* But I am also due to buy (as I was lucky enough to sit on 4-4.5 points for like a year, since apparently no one hits grounders to 3rd this year), whereas Ben bought pretty recently. I guess I am wondering if Ben’s incredible points pace should hurt him, given that there are others of us who should also provide beverages. So, does the time elapsed between beverage procurement matter? What about the rate at which you earn points? Maybe we need another poll. . .
*Note that 4th includes Ron, who isn’t a regular. But I think if we follow Fenders’ example (i.e. calling a sub with

FYI, it was Jon L., not me, who made the leaping catch–not sure if my 6-inch vertical would have been sufficient on that one.

Jon,
Typically it has been the person with the most points who brings next. But since we didn’t bring beverages out in the fall, we built up a bit of a backlog and with Ben’s rapid point accumulation, he is seemingly in line every week (though the next time he brings we agreed to get him back to zero no matter how many record points he accumulates). Matt is bringing beverages next week since he actually brought them this week as well. But, I think it would be good to have people provide first if they haven’t brought in a while. Also, we could permanently enact the “Ben Rule” so that everyone goes back to zero after providing and thus no one is hurt by being bumped back in lieu of someone else.

I made an error in the first inning. Add on another point for me. I’ll be buying in no time!
