Wish you could play your favorite indie rock songs on Guitar Hero (oooh Mudhoney, Superchunk, Versus, Yo La Tengo, Sleater-Kinney- check out these indie Guitar Hero wishlists)? While you can’t rock out to many indie rock songs on Guitar Hero (there is Kool Thing by Sonic Youth), you can at least decorate your guitar like a true indie rocker. I created a page of stickers from my favorite labels that you can print at home (try Avery 8165). In addition to the PDF file, the original Word document includes various sizes, but you can also resize them to fit your needs.
When was the last time you wrote a song in honor of your team’s trade deadline pickup? Check out this tribute to Mark Teixeira from a couple of Auburn students (those Auburn kids have way too much time on their hands). Side note- I heard that Francouer comped some tickets for these kids to an upcoming game and that they might even perform before the game. Sweet!!
I just came across a pretty cool site for music lovers. It is called Pandora. Based on results from the Music Genome Project, you enter a song or artist that you like, and Pandora creates a customized, streaming radio station for you with songs it thinks you’ll like. You can then help guide Pandora by rating the songs it picks, playing more songs like the current one, and adding artists that you think would be appropriate for the station. Pandora then updates the station on the fly. Pretty cool!! The interface is pretty slick too with album art, etc. I was pretty impressed with the “Versus Station” that it created for me (though playing Versus songs in the Versus station is kind of cheating). Seems like a great way to find new songs and bands based on your current musical tastes. I can only imagine that the stations will become even more interesting and pointed as more music is added and more people provide feedback. Try it out and let me know what you think (oh yeah, it’s free too).
